Transitioning into the Cambridge Portfolio Project!!

Transitioning into the Cambridge Portfolio Project!!

Hello people of Cambridge!! It's time to start transitioning into this project at full speed! I am very nervous to start this project, yet I feel confident that I have all the tools I need to have a successful film opening. For my following blog posts, I will be documenting my process of the film opening, such as my schedule, script, and any and all ideas that come about, will be documented and posted here.

Drama

The dramatic films have always had my attention and always left me with a sense of wanting to watch more. The depth of films like these, with the color palette being different for every film, just astonishes me.

The film Forrest Gump(1994) is probably one of my favorite films of all time. The way Tom Hanks was able to portray a deep character so well and how each setting fit so perfectly will always amaze me.

Every long shot used throughout the film was so necessary to the plot and development of the character. Each shot of the setting and of Forest gave an emphasized feel of a narrator and built on th ehistoric element sin the film. That simple choice of the long shot changed the film in its entirety. The use of the bench when Forrest is narrating is also a very important piece in the film. The outfits that each character wears also play an important part in order to signify the date and what the characters were going through. This can be considered a historical drama due to the fact that we are following the life from the beginning to the present day.

The attention to detail is where I like to think I shine, since every piece must be thought out and executed to the best of my ability. Each choice should and will have a reason, whether that be to develop the character or establish the scene. I plan to incorporate the attention to detail in my piece in order to have the best outcome possible.

Coming of Age

Coming-of-age films have been a very easy genre for me to relate to since many protagonists are my age or close to it and face problems similar to mine. That important element is what audiences are drawn to. People just want to be seen and understood and represented in a way that touches their hearts.

The film Uptown Girls(2003) is a film that relates to kids with neglectful parents who just want to be seen for who they truly are. The many two shots used in this film represent the relationship between the characters so well, although there is a large age gap.

The character development and relationship represented by the simple two-shot is such a strong choice that it worked very well. Their clothing choices and the different saturationg the different scenes to emphasize whatever is happening at that moment truly is what the audeinces are yearning for.

The editing process for films such as this may be a challenge due to my basic level of editing, but it is one that I may be willing to work on for my benefit and the benefit of the overall film opening. The saturation of certain colors in certain scenes, and the lighting must be on point in order for the effect to get across.
